Finally,
a small fast keel boat that can be raced hard by a small crew. This
design is a direct by-product of an unprecedented research and
development effort by the designer of the VG-Mount Gay 30, which
translates into a guaranteed performance! The 2XS-7000 has been
conceived for simplicity of function, from the sail handling, to the
trailoring of the boat.
With this in mind, Van Gorkom Yacht Design has developed an affordable
kit plan package that makes it possible for the amateur boat builder to
construct a high performance, unsinkable, one-off, day racer. The plans
are extremely detailed and cover all aspects of construction and
outfitting.
The basic laminate of the hull and deck will e-glass material laid up
over a user-friendly, CoreCell "bead and cove" core using an epoxy
resin base. This will ensure a very strong and lightweight shell,
capable of delivering on performance and tough enough to withstand the
rigors of everyday use.
The light carbon fiber mast has one set of swept back spreaders and no
runners or backstay and can easily be manhandled into place. The highly
roached main provides all the power while the non-overlapping blade jib
keeps the boat at close angles to the breeze. There is the option of
rigging the 2XS-7000 with either a symmetric or asymmetric spinnaker
for greater versatility of function.
The boat can easily be launched from a trailer via a single point hoist
or from a ramp and can be set up to sail in less than 20 minutes. The
retractable "L" shaped keel firmly locks in place on a thru-flange
connecting hull and deck.
