Van Gorkom Yacht
Design have taken their 41XS design and TURBOIZED it!
The VG-41XS
TURBO has been primarily developed and optimized to the recently
introduced Tranpac 41 Rule, which is seen as a relatively cost
effective alternative to the 52's. However, the VG-41XS TURBO will not
only be a serious competitor in the sled divisions, but also in the
club racing as well as under the Americap system of handicapping.
This ride will
definitely be in the hunt for line honors, offshore or around the cans.
The quick streamline canoe body and fine entry forward guarantee a
strong windward performance, while the powerful after sections ensure a
dominant planing ability.
The runnerless,
fractional rig is carbon fiber with 20 degrees swept back spreaders.
The cockpit is long and open with a single competition carbon wheel,
through-the-boom mainsail sheeting, and a non-overlapping jib. The keel
is our state-of-the-art, high-lift foil and bulb configuration,
contributing to a remarkably stable and well-balanced boat.
Below decks is a
functional and well laid out interior attuned to offshore sailing.
There is a center-line, aft-facing nav station with saddle type seat,
four permanent births with flip-up seat backs forming two more, a small
working galley, and an enclosed head.
Integral water
ballast tanks give this design a full range of stability and further
add to the versatility and dynamics of the boat. This system will allow
the owner to race offshore with reduced crew numbers, or to sail around
the cans fully crewed and without water ballast.
The construction
of the post-cured hull and deck structure consists of a vacuum-bagged,
wet-preg s-glass and kevlar laminate over a foam core using an epoxy
resin. Carbon fiber is used selectively in areas of high loadings such
as stringers, frames, and chainplates. The rudder blade and stock are
all carbon.
