Van
Gorkom Yacht Design introduces the NorthWester 50 Aft Cabin Cruiser.
The NW50 was designed for the yachtsman who wants a sturdy, comfortable
power yacht without compromising on performance and esthetics. The
handsome trawler-style accentuates the lines of the NW50, making it a
vessel that any yachtsman would be proud to motor into a harbor.
The semi-planing hull shape has raised bulwarks forward giving the
yacht excellent sea keeping characteristics. The full-length lifting
strake also adds to the NorthWester 50s dynamic stability and helps in
achieving its upper speed range more efficiently.
The
NorthWester 50 is powered by twin CAT 3126TA diesel engines giving the
boat a cruising speed of 18 to 20 knots and 26 knots flat out. There is
a powerful bow-thruster for maneuvering, a 20kw diesel generator, and a
24volt/110volt electrical system which more than meets the ships power
requirements. The engine room has been planned for ease of maintenance
and servicing of machinery and systems.
The
accommodations are extremely comfortable and well laid out. The
spacious aft master cabin is complete with a queen sized berth, a work
desk, an entertainment unit, plenty of locker space, its own head, and
a private exit to the after deck. On the lower deck there are two
identical cabins forward each with a double berth, a bureau, and
hanging locker. Each of these cabins shares a head that is also
accessible from a very well outfitted "gourmet" galley. Standing height
access to the engine room is from the galley area as well.
On
the upper deck there is a spacious and comfortable salon, which has a
lounge/dining area for eight, a complete entertainment center, a
library, and a bar and mini-fridge. A few steps away is the bridge
which has been designed for the deep sea sailor in mind and is the
nerve center of this yacht. It is complete with a full array of
communication and navigational instruments, systems monitoring, a
full-size chart table, a single and double captains chair, and a helm
station with a commanding 360-degree view. There is access to both port
and starboard side decks from the bridge.
Up
on deck, there is plenty of room to relax, either up forward on the
cabin trunk or back on the after deck. Easily passable side decks link
these areas. There are two aft lockers for lines and fenders, gas
bottles, and miscellaneous stowage. The tender is stowed above the
salon on chocks and launched with an electric derrick which ads to the
trawler style of the NorthWester 50.
